Fort Never makes heavy beats and soft soundscapes: slow, weighty grooves underneath gentle layers of texture and three overlapping voices. It’s trip-hop at heart, with electronic dub in the low end, lo-fi folk in the melodies and a habit of taking arrangements somewhere you didn’t expect. Everything we release is produced by Timmie Rook and written by Chantell Moody, Timmie Rook, Deano Coté and Matt Rusin.

The album: Home (2016)
Home is our first full-length record, released in 2016. It’s eight songs long, and its cover is a painted house on a red background. The record is about the places and people we come back to, and how hard it can be to hold onto them. Press has compared it to Portishead-esque trip-hop, and that’s a fair starting point: the beats are slow and heavy, the space around them is wide, and the vocals sit close to your ear.
Each of the three singers, Chantell, Timmie and Deano, takes the lead at different points, and the harmonies tie it together. Deano’s live drumming next to Timmie’s programmed beats gives the songs a push and pull that a drum machine alone wouldn’t. We’d suggest listening start to finish the first time, preferably with headphones or speakers that can handle some low end.

Singles
Since Home we’ve mostly been releasing songs one at a time, as they’re finished.
- “We Keep Catching Fire” (2020). A single that keeps the Fort Never balance intact: heavy underneath, soft on top.
- “Take A Look At Us Now” (2023). Featured as a KUTX Song of the Day on Austin’s public music station. Hearing it on hometown radio was a high point for us.
Singles show up on the streaming services first. The easiest way to hear new ones as soon as they’re out is to follow us on Spotify or SoundCloud, or to join the newsletter.

Streaming is great for discovery. If you want to support the band directly, though, buying from us is the most useful thing you can do. Home is available in our shop as a digital download (MP3 and WAV) and on CD, next to the cream Fort Never logo tee. Money spent there goes straight toward recording, releasing and playing more music.
Filmmakers, editors and content creators can license our tracks for their projects, and other artists can book production and mixing time with us. See services for details. To hear these songs live, check upcoming shows.
